The College Corps Fellowship at UC Riverside is part of a statewide initiative launched by California Volunteers, Office of the Governor. This program creates debt-free pathways to college while mobilizing students across California to address critical community challenges.

At UC Riverside, we are proud to support this mission by placing College Corps Fellows in service opportunities that make a meaningful impact in our region. Fellows will serve approximately 12–15 hours per week from September to June/July, focusing on one of the program’s key issue areas: K–12 Education, Food Insecurity, and Climate Action.
To be eligible to serve as a UC Riverside College Corps Fellow, applicants must:
  • Must be 17 years or older by the start of your service term
  • Must be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States or AB-540 eligible Dream Act student
  • Must satisfy the National Service Criminal History Check unless an AB-540 eligible Dream Act student
  • Regardless of whether you are required to complete a background check, you must not have been convicted of a sex offense and/or murder
  • Must hold a high school diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Must be an enrolled full-time undergraduate student
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Must be able to commit to the program for one full academic year
Education Fellows will be placed at either an elementary school or a community center, based on their Fall quarter availability and preferences selected on their application. Your service will support academic achievement and engagement in meaningful, culturally responsive ways. You may:
  • Tutor students in reading, writing, and/or math
  • Mentor children and support their social-emotional development
  • Assist in classroom settings and/or after-school programs
  • Plan, lead, or help coordinate educational workshops, events, or enrichment activities
  • Support teachers and staff with curriculum delivery or small group support
  • Encourage student confidence, participation, and learning growth
You will be matched with a local K–12 school, after-school program, or educational nonprofit in the Riverside area. Past and potential service partners include:
Elementary School Placement:
  • Tutor small groups of students in English and Math
  • Track student progress throughout the year
  • Support classroom learning and student engagement
     
Community Center / Afterschool Program Placement:
  • Assist students with homework and academic support
  • Plan and lead enrichment activities such as arts, STEM, reading, or wellness
  • Engage with students in a positive and structured after-school setting
Serving as a College Corps Fellow offers many benefits, including:
  • Receive Financial Support
    Financial benefits up to $10,000 upon successful completion of the term of service, including a $7,000 living allowance and $3,000 education award(s)
  • Build Real-World Experience
    Gain hands-on experience in education and public service by working directly with local schools, community partners, and nonprofit organizations. Past Fellows have supported tutoring, classroom engagement, after-school programming, and school-wide initiatives that impact K-12 youth.
  • Develop Professional Skills
    Participate in workshops, training sessions, and one-on-one mentoring designed to grow your skills in areas such as communication, leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, and civic engagement — all highly transferable to future careers.
  • Engage in Community Leadership
    Play an active role in addressing real community challenges. Whether supporting underserved students, helping families access vital resources, or contributing to educational equity, your service creates a tangible impact while developing your leadership potential.
  • Join a Statewide Network of Changemakers
    Become part of a diverse, statewide cohort of student leaders who are passionate about social impact. You’ll connect with Fellows across California who share your commitment to service, justice, and equity.

    Build meaningful relationships with educators, school staff, community-based organizations, and civic leaders in the Inland Empire and beyond — opening doors for future internships, jobs, or collaborations.
